Job Description:

Dimensions:Providing a professional Control and Instrumentation service conforming to company guidelines and in accordance with good engineering practices.


Purpose:

*To provide a comprehensive Control and Instrumentation service, to the whole site, in accordance with company guidlines, local rules and statutory requirements.
*To ensure maximum availability of plant and user equipment through efficient planned maintenance and prompt response to faults.
*To provide technical support for projects and assist with commissioning and hand over works for plant and user equipment.

Principal Accountabilities:

*Carry out PPM's and complete documentation and calibration certificates in accordance with company guidlines, local rules and statutory requirements.
*Carry out ESR's and complete documentation and calibration certificates in accordance with company guidlines, local rules and statutory requirements.
*Prioritise the workload and ensure that resources are allocated to meet user demands.
*Communicate with the user and the engineering department of progress to date and advise on any delays to maintenance schedules.
*Review PPM's for content and frequency and update them as necessary.
*Follow GSK change controls for any changes made to plant and user equipment.
*Modify drawings and documentation to reflect any changes made and pass them to the drawing office for them to be updated.
*Order and maintain the correct level of spare parts and consumables to provide an efficient service without carrying large amounts of surplus stock.
*Identify and maintain a stock of critical spares that would cause delays if not available, when required, resulting in unacceptable levels of plant or user equipment availability.
*Supervise contractors and service engineers when they are called in to maintain plant and user equipment under our control.
*Carry out site induction's for contractors and service engineers under our control.
*Receive and issue permits to work, where necessary, in accordance with GSK and EMCOR safety procedures.
*Raise ESR's to cover work that is not already covered by PPM's or existing ESR's.
*Authorise ESR's, raised by customers, for the instrument team.
*Produce SOP's and method statements to ensure that Control and Instrumentation tasks and procedures can be carried out safely and in accordance with company guidelines, local rules and statutory requirements.
*Develop a centralised instrument team responding to needs of the whole site and maximise their effectiveness by making best use of the resources available to achieve the required performance standards.
*Incorporate the C & I elements of the BMS systems into the instrument teams responsibilities, and recruit staff to take on the additional workload.
*To keep up to date with new technology and apply it where appropriate

Qualifications and Experience:

*Time served, indentured Industrial Control & Instrumentation Apprenticeship.
*Proven man management in a team driven environment
*Educated to HNC level or above in Control & Instrumentation related subjects
*Experienced in the major areas of industrial instrumentation and control techniques. This experience will have been gained from working in the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, steel making, power generation or automated manufacturing industries.
*Able to demonstrate a full understanding of the instrumentation and control principles for the systems in which they are experienced.
*Must be able to demonstrate successful application of knowledge to fault-find under pressured situations.
*There must be a full understanding and experience of the calibration principles and techniques applicable to the instruments worked upon.
