Purpose: To lead an engineering team in Birmingham in the design of buildings, footbridges and other miscellaneous structures within a rail environment supporting the Contract manager and Project Managers in delivery of all technical aspects of projects.

Requirements

• Competent to work unsupervised and to supervise others
• Competent to check and approve the work of others
• Competent to sign off design certificates on behalf of the company
• PTS or other track safety qualifications (desirable)

Responsibilities

• To take on the responsibility for the technical quality of building and ancillary structures projects carried out by or on behalf of the design team
• To supervise and check the work of less experienced staff and to take part in the professional development of those staff
• Manage the competency appraisal processes for structural designers in Birmingham and liaise with the Head of Engineering
• Act as ContractorâÂ?Â?s Responsible Engineer and ContractorâÂ?Â?s Engineering Manager when required to do so
• Conceptual and outline design of engineering solutions, presentation of engineering options
• Preparation, checking and/or approval of feasibility studies, technical reports and other written documents
• Preparation/checking of design calculations, structural analysis
