Job Description:
Group Director

Job Purpose:

My Clients design offices in Berlin, Munich and Warsaw undertake multi disciplinary design work for projects throughout Central and Eastern Europe and Russia. Their clients principally consist of internationally focused architects and developers and appreciate the skills and added value we are able to bring to their projects.

They are expanding the capability of their Berlin team and wish to appoint a Group Director to be responsible for operating within this market. The requirements will from time to time demand travel to where opportunities are (current regional projects with English speaking clients are ongoing in Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, Hungary, Russia, Georgia and Ukraine).

This role represents an important development from one exclusively responsible for technical engineering and design work into one that starts to take on the wider issues of business management.

Key Responsibilities:

Demonstrate an understanding of the current and future market trends in order to establish the work focus for the group
Agree strategic and annual business plans (i.e. budgeted profitability and turnover) with the MD and Finance Director
Project Principle for appropriate group projects, taking ownership for sustained and productive client relationships.
Directing multiple projects across the group, taking responsibility for the engineering solutions while ensuring financial success.
Reporting to the Executive Board and Business Review Team on group performance, owning and responding to actions emerging from these meetings as appropriate.
Identifying the groups marketing goals and establishing an associated plan
Winning work - actively identifying and converting leads to projects within the framework of the group marketing strategy
Reviewing financial and technical submissions/proposals; attending interviews
Developing and maintaining key client relationships under all circumstances, maximizing opportunities for repeat business
Communicate team direction and performance to the group
Strategic assessment and rebalance of the teams strengths and needs over the long term in order to deliver the succession plan with responsibility for the longevity of the group.
Mentoring Associate Directors in order that meaningful delegation can apply within the team.
Champion delivery of the company's Performance Development Review process in support of all the above.
Ensure latest learning and development initiatives are implemented as required within the team.
Manage reward and recognition of the team
Participate in and ensure delivery of the process of high-level project technical/quality reviews of specifications, reports and drawings produced by the team.
Maintain the skills balance within the group in line with the defined strategic direction.
Ensuring 'design rigor' is delivered on each project, and in particular ensuring design QA processes are fully planned and implemented.
Direct the engineering design excellence within the team and ensure dissemination of 'best in class' to rest of the DDG/Practice.

Qualifications:

Equivalent national degree (Dip-Ing, BEng, MEng) and proven relevant experience
Chartered Engineer
Typically holds relevant post graduate qualification
Minimum 15 years relevant experience
