| Benefits Assessment Officer - The Revenues and Benefits department of a busy Local Authority based in East London requires a Benefits Assessment Officer to work within the Housing Services Department, working alongside Housing Officers, Housing Advisors, Housing Assessors and Resident Liaison Officers. The role will be work with the Benefits Team to process all benefit claims and changes in circumstances accurately to meet customer expectations and Performance Measures. JOB DESCRIPTION *To process all claims for Housing and Council Tax Benefit, including complex cases in accordance with relevant primary and secondary legislation, any amendments, Verification Framework, guidance, case law and best practice. *To visit customers at home to obtain necessary information and evidence and assist them with claiming benefit. To also carry out Intervention and HBMS visits as required to meet targets and guidelines. *To make investigations on liability where information is not clear or is potentially fraudulent and to refer cases to the Corporate Anti Fraud Team for investigation where potentially fraudulent claims fir Housing Benefit or other may have been identified. *To process claims for backdated benefit in accordance with national guidelines, benefit regulations and local policy. *To set up and amend Council Tax accounts as required to deal with benefit claims and notify the relevant sections of changes in liability, which may affect outstanding balances recovery action. *Develop and maintain liaison with housing associations and other stakeholders. *To have and maintain a detailed working knowledge of Housing and Council Tax Benefit legislation law and practice and related welfare benefits. In addition to maintain a working knowledge of other related legislation to deal with claims involving earnings, assessment of capital values, properties and asset.
